This blog is to chronicle our epic cross-country bike trip starting Memorial Day (5/26) and going to August 11th, 2017. Together we are crossing the USA on RV2 (our tandem) with "Burley-Boy" (a trailer), for 4,400 miles!

2 months to go!
Well, it's getting more and more real. We've got our path pretty much figured out, roughly following this route.
And we are gathering the spares that we anticipate we might need. Things like a spare Gates belt, and longer brake and shifting cables - things that are hard to find in the middle of South Dakota.
I've also mounted up some larger tires on the RV2: 700x28 in front, and 700x32 in back. They are Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires, and they're pretty bulletproof. That's pretty much all the larger we can go without removing the fenders (which would be silly - we are going to get rained on, and the stoker ends up looking like a mud fence when we ride in the rain without fenders. Something about riding in the eddy, I think?)
We also have been testing out our SENA SMH5 intercom system. It's basically a headset unit that allows us to talk between each other without yelling, and it also lets us listen to podcasts together. It also has a built in FM radio which seems to work pretty well. The biggest challenge so far is keeping our helmets from going crooked due to the weight of the control thingy on one side of the helmet...
Oh well, more to come. I just thought it important to note this T Minus 2 month milestone!
